Sarah McGuire - Owner
Sarah is an Holistic Therapist, Accredited Life coach and hypnotherapist . She began her vast array of training in massage in 2007 where she studied relaxation, Lomi Lomi, Shiatzu and emotional release techniques.
She then went on to work at Fountainhead Organic Retreat in Australia in 2008. This experience allowed Sarah to work with clients who were suffering and recovering from cancer and other health issues, including anxiety and depression, treating them organically and holistically. In her time there she learnt about detoxification, raw food preparation and permaculture. These opportunities have given her a well-rounded perspective on holistic treatments and lifestyle.
Sarah moved back to Nelson, New Zealand and began working in the outdoors, managing a guiding company, where she discovered another opening for people to connect with themselves and others through movement and being empowered by nature.
This combination of experiences ultimately lead to her creating Wellness New Zealand offering a unique transformative approach to wellness.
Sarah Cumming - General Manager
Sarah has a background in teaching in Health, Outdoor and Physical Education. With 17 years experience, many of these in leadership roles, Sarah supports the behind the scenes running of Wellness New Zealand.
Sarah is passionate about spending time in the outdoors, on the water and in the bush and has personal experience of the benefits of being in nature to heal and reconnect.
She has an affinity for the wildlife the NZ bush is home to and loves photographing our stunning environment.
Lisa Johnston - Chef
Lisa’s journey with food started around 20 years ago while travelling through the UK. She loved working with food, in particular the fast-paced energy of kitchens and creating beautiful dishes for people to enjoy.
About 8 years ago Lisa started becoming interested in raw foods and the benefits of, which then introduced her to raw chocolate and all its glory! She embraced the concept of her creation being raw, dairy free, gluten free and vegan. “I love that cacao doesn’t have to be heated by high temperatures, so it retains all its nutrients and goodness.” Lisa explains. She has a food cart, from which she specialises in 'Superfood’ smoothies, cold pressed juices and raw slices and chocolates.
Creating healthy and tasty food for people is her way of giving something back and is what she is most excited and passionate about. The connection with food and wellness is so important to feeling good mentally and physically.
Lisa values sourcing high quality, organic produce and, where possible, just stepping outside into the garden, to create beautiful, nutritious meals - food is medicine.
Rachael Vickers - Health Coach
Rachael is an integrative nutrition health coach who is passionate about supporting and guiding women on their fertility journey through the power of simple dietary and lifestyle changes.
Rachael understands the emotional roller-coaster, highs and lowest of lows that a fertility journey can bring from her own personal experience of eight years of "unexplained infertility", a devastating miscarriage, an unsuccessful IVF cycle, multiple visits to doctors and alternative health practitioners, to finally attaining the longed for baby a month after she turned forty. Her beautiful baby girl was conceived naturally following dietary, lifestyle and supplementation changes. Motivated by her own fertility journey, Rachael became deeply interested in the field of integrative nutrition and health and has completed a health coaching certification at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition as well as an advanced course in hormone health.
Rachael leads our “Optimise Your Fertility” retreats and is based in Nelson.
Christine Leunens - Guest Writer
Christine Leunens holds a Master of Liberal Arts in English and American Literature and Language from Harvard University and a PhD in Creative Writing from Victoria University of Wellington. She is the author of three books, critically acclaimed Primordial Soup; international bestseller and Prix Médicis Étranger nomination Caging Skies; and A Can of Sunshine, selected as 'Best Books of the Year 2013' by the NZ Herald. Caging Skies has been adapted into a major film that premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September 2019 and will be released worldwide between October 2019 and January 2020. Her novels have been translated into over twenty languages. Christine is currently completing a historical Franco-New Zealand novel, South of Memory. Juli’s mother suddenly came down with full body arthritis , could hardly get out of bed, stuck in the anger part of grief after the sudden passing of her father. She just happened to find a short book called " There is a cure for arthritis" and gave it to her mother. It was about a 6 week cleansing diet and part of the regime was a massage everyday.
Daily massage was un-affordable so Juli offered to massage her mum and on the dining room table. After 3 days she said, “Wow you are better than any massage I've ever had!”
Juli’s passion was born that day and 25 years on she still has great passion and it's a very rewarding vocation for her, not a job.
